As we pass through our lives, "things" attach themselves to us. They throw grappling hooks with lines at us to attach themselves to us. The "things" that form attachments to us are, for example, wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony. The Son of God entered the world to give us an alternative to attach ourselves. The Son of God is a better substitute for the lesser "things". He is the love note delivered to us at Bethlehem and the guarantee of the love note delivered to us at Calvary. Attach yourself to the love note and its guarantee instead of the lesser things.
The sacrament of Reconciliation is a sacrament of detachment. Through Reconciliation, God helps us detach ourselves from the "things" that have their hooks in us.
The sacrament of the most Holy Eucharist is a sacrament of attachment to God. Through the Eucharist, God helps us attach ourselves to them.
